Often called the “Ice Age,” is was one of several periods in the past in which parts of the Earth was covered with ice sheets and glaciers.  It was a period of time that included the last ice age.  

These large, elephant-like mammals were adapted to cold climates and had long, curved tusks.  They inhabited areas such as tundra and feed on the grasses there.  Several species, such as the Columbian and the Woolly, roamed the Oklahoma region.

These large, stocky animals lived during the Pleistocene epoch and are known for their shorter, straighter tusks, conical-cusped teeth adapted for browsing on leaves and twigs, and a flatter skull when compared to other elephant-like creatures. Scientifically known as Smilodon (SMAI-LUH-DON), this was a prehistoric carnivorous mammal that lived during the Pleistocene epoch. They were characterized by their long, serrated canine teeth, which could grow up to 7 inches (18 cm) in length.
