Child Study Movement

-Nationwide effort to use psych to improve education -Discover all that could be known about the child (humor, play, mental capabilities, etc.) -Data proved of little use -Spawned fields in developmental and educational psychology

Work on Adolescence

-Coined/introduced the term "adolescence" -Established adolescence as a distinctive age in development -Frank about sex and thought sex education should be offered in school

Hall's System of Psychology

-Genetic psychology that was heavily influenced by Darwin -Adopted the theory of recapitulation

Theory of Recapitulation

-Evolution in the stages of our own development -Says that when a zygote forms, its growth phases replay its evolutionary past.

Sex Ed

-Frank about sex ed and thought it should be introduced in schools -Thought it was unfortunate that school teachers were predominately women

Hall and Freud

-Freud's only visit to America was on account of Hall -Brought Freud to speak at Clark University -Admired Freud's work despite the controversy
