is now the symbol for a physician.

This person was tried for practicing without a license.

Known as the “Father of Medicine”, he wrote the oath that doctors still

take today.

He was a physician to gladiator who noted the connection between the

spinal cord and the limbs and described how to performing tracheotomies.

These men had quite the job description ranging from a shave and a

haircut to bloodletting and cauterizing limbs.

He was credited with describing “animalcules” (bacteria).

During this time in history, ether as an anesthetic is being used, making

surgery painless, as well, blood cells, bacteria and protozoa are discovered and the stethoscope is invented.
