In chapter 3 Hester recognizes a man in the crowd with an Indian. That man is her husband.

Hester makes her living by farming in the community once she is released from jail.

Hester chooses the name Pearl for her daughter because she comes at a high price (so costly).

Hester visits Governor Bellingham’s house in chapter 7.

The men in chapter 7 suggest that Pearl be sent away but Chillingsworth makes them change their minds.

Chillingsworth and Dimmesdale move in together and Chillingsworth begins the torturing process.

Dimmesdale carves an ‘A’ in his chest to punish himself for the sinful acts.

Hester eventually tells Chillingsworth that she is going to reveal his identity to Dimmesdale.

While Hester is telling Chillingsworth of her plans, Pearl makes a letter ‘A’ for herself out of seaweed.

Hester tries to tell Pearl a story about Dimmesdale but she can’t understand.

After Hester and Dimmesdale decide on their plans Hester throws the scarlet letter aside.

Pearl gets violently upset when she sees her mother throw the letter away.

Arthur Dimmesdale gives a great sermon to the people on the scaffold which marks his greatest moment in the town.

Dimmesdale reveals to all of the people that he has secretly worn a letter ‘A’ under his shirt for this entire time.

Dimmesdale and Hester escape at the end and live a wonderful life away from the town.

Pearl leaves the town and never sees Hester again because of the resentment she holds.
