What is Design thinking?
A methodology for creative problem solving
Used to design cars
Design a pretty picture
What are the 5 stages of design thinking?
Think, Feel, Draw, Build, Experiment
Test, Draw, Design, Brainstorm, Define
Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test
Think, Brainstorm, Test, Test again, Think
What do we do in the empathise stage?
Sit down and meditate with someone
Consulting, observing, engaging, empathising with people
Think about myself and my own problems
What does empathise mean?
Understand and share the feelings of another
Think about myself
Think about the problems in the world
What does define mean
Imagine what things might mean
State or describe exactly the nature, scope or meaning of something
Write things down
What do we do during the define stage?
Write everything down in the correct order
Put together the information you have created and gathered during the Empathise stage so you can observe and synthesise it in order to see the core problems.
Think about the problem
What does Ideate mean?
Generating ideas and brainstorming
Come up with random ideas
Come up with one really good idea
What should be achieved during the Ideate stage?
A long list
Think along the same lines as other problem solvers
Think outside the box and come up with the best way to solve a problem
What does Prototype mean?
The first type of something
A first or preliminary version of a device or vehicle from which other forms are developed
Something small and hand built
What happens during the prototype stage?
The design team produces a number of inexpensive scaled down versions of the product
Make miniature things
What happens during the Test stage?
Designers test the complete product, they often jump back into another stage to redefine and test again
Test to see that the prototype doesn't break
This is the final stage and then they move on
What does a Non-Linear Process mean?
The process is carried out in a more flexible and non-linear fashion.
A path with curves in it
All over the place
