​There are 4 things involved in "Judging" the law, the first is

​​Interpreting the Law

  • ​What does the Law actually say.

Remember the 15th Amendment! Everyone thought it gave African Americans the right to vote, but when you look at what it says - it is only a list of reasons you can't deny them the right to vote. (Race, Color, Previous condition of servitude)

​There are 4 things involved in "Judging" the law the second is

​Deciding is it Constitutional

  • ​Did the government have "the power" to make that law?

​Laws that are not within the power granted to the government by the Constitution are called "Unconstitutional"

  • ​Was the law broken

​This is decided in court during a trial

  • What is the punishment

​This is decided by a judge during the "sentencing" phase of a trial after a guilty verdict has been decided.

​Rule of Law - Definitions

​The definitions are as follows

​1. The Law Rules

  • Reign means "to rule"

2.The Law is sovereign

  • Sovereign means "highest power" which is definition #3

​3.The Law is the "highest power"

  • ​Law is power because it "makes" you wear a seatbelt and "prevents" you from texting and driving

​Rule of Law

​The 4 "Nobody" are

​Nobody is above the law

  • ​If someone is "above the law" then the Law is not the highest power

​Nobody can be outside the law

  • ​An outlaw is someone who doesn't obey the law

Nobody can bend the law

  • ​Bending the law is like complaining you were only 30 seconds late after the tardy bell

Nobody can break the law

​Rule of Law

​Everybody must Follow the law

  • ​There are no exceptions.

  • Justice means that the laws are equally applied to everyone and everyone must follow the same laws as everyone else

"The essence of Freedom is the absence of Law"

​Freedom means that we have control over our choices, however because humans have not been able to live together peacefully, we have to have laws that "restrict" what we can do. Thus society is never "truly free". Only when we are able to live "without" law will we be Free
